Self-Care

Mental Health and Wellness Self-Care

Self-care is a process. It involves repetition of habits and certain activities to ensure that you maintain your emotional and physical health. Medication and counseling are vital components of your wellness plan, but self-care can make a big difference, too.

Self-Care Activities

There are certain activities that you have to implement and develop. The key is to include these activities in your daily life and do them mindfully. The following are some of the most effective activities to help promote your mental health and overall wellness:

  • Keep a file or a list of the nice things that people say to you.
  • Lie back and relax.
  • Change the way you decide upon things.
  • Do something that you don’t usually do and feel proud of yourself for stepping out of your comfort zone.
  • Spend some time alone.
  • No social media, no TV.
  • Just unplug yourself for a while.
  • Walk or run for a few minutes.
  • Getting your heart rate up just for a bit can have a profound effect.
  • Take deep breaths.
  • Get to know yourself better.
  • Eat healthy.
  • Make small changes to your diet, like reducing the amount of refined sugars you eat.
  • Then build on the small changes.
  • Have a good laugh.
  • Write out your thoughts.

There are other self-care activities you can try .The list mentioned is not exhaustive. In fact, you can make your own. Spoil yourself a little. Help others, help yourself. Just stay away from negative vibes and focus on what makes you happy and contented.

Making a Self Care Plan

Keep in mind that the ultimate goal in making a self-care plan is to improve your mental health and overall wellness. Just do things that feel great and make you strong physically, emotionally and mentally. It does not matter how small or little it is. The important thing is that you do it often. Make it a habit. In time, you will be able to clear the fog off your life. You will be more connected with the world, the people around you and most importantly, with yourself. There is no hard and fast rule on how to take care of yourself. Just always remember that what you do is for your self-improvement and well-being. Don’t do things that will eventually be harmful to you. The main rule is to get to know yourself better and feel great and contented with what you are, who you are with, where you are, what you have and what you do.
